Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign treatment is an innovative process using transparent, removable aligners that straighten your teeth over time. They’re made out of durable, flexible thermoplastic instead of metal brackets like traditional braces.

The aligners are FDA-approved and fit snugly over your teeth according to impressions of your mouth Dr. Armstrong takes at the office.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

First, Dr. Armstrong evaluates your teeth and develops a treatment plan to straighten them. Once your aligners arrive, you wear them for 20-22 hours a day. You can take them out when you eat and brush your teeth.

The aligners work by applying controlled force, gradually shifting your teeth into position. Your teeth’s movement is precise and mapped out thoroughly ahead of time.

Every few weeks you receive a new set of aligners that have undergone slight adjustments. Dr. Armstrong maintains appointments with you to monitor your progress and makes alterations as necessary.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

With Invisalign, no one has to know you’re wearing an appliance on your teeth. Unlike with traditional metal braces, Invisalign is virtually invisible, and you can smile with confidence while you wear them.

Since you can take out your Invisalign aligners, you can also eat without getting food stuck in your brackets. Another key benefit is how simple your checkups are. At most, Dr. Armstrong makes slight adjustments to your treatment plan or offers advice on how to better care for your aligners.

How do I take care of my Invisalign aligners?

You can brush your aligners with fluoride toothpaste and rinse them in warm water to take care of them. However, don’t use water that’s too hot or it can bend the plastic material. You can also order the Invisalign cleaning system, which is available online or through Armstrong Dental Studio directly.
